The Barry-Eaton District Health Department is excited to celebrate the grand opening of Baby Café in Eaton County during National Breastfeeding Month. The grand opening of the Barry-Eaton Baby Café in Eaton County will be held on Friday, August 18th, 2023 from 11am to 12pm at AL!VE in Charlotte, Michigan during the regularly scheduled Baby Café meeting. Breastfeeding moms, moms thinking about breastfeeding, their families, local physicians, businesses that support breastfeeding, local media, and any other organization or person who supports breastfeeding are encouraged to come celebrate! There will be remarks from community members, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and light refreshments during the event. August is National Breastfeeding Month and the theme this year, “This is our why”, focuses on why supporting breastfeeding is so important. Each week of National Breastfeeding Month highlights a different theme and area of focus in breastfeeding. Week one is “World Breastfeeding Week.” Week two is “Indigenous Milk Medicine Week.” Week three is “Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week.” Week four is “Black Breastfeeding Week.” Week five was recently added from September 5th through the 11th and is “Semana de La Lactancia Latina.” To find out more, visit: https://bit.ly/3OF1MpW.

The Barry-Eaton Baby Café is supported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Maternal Child Health Block Grant in affiliation with the Barry-Eaton District Health Department, Hastings Public Library, and AL!VE. Baby Café is a free informal group where individuals can ask breastfeeding questions, receive professional lactation care and intervention, and meet other moms. Older siblings are also welcome and light refreshments are provided each week.

The Barry-Eaton Baby Café in Eaton County meets weekly at AL!VE on Fridays from 10am to 12pm. Additionally, a Barry-Eaton Baby Café in Hastings, Michigan meets every week on Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm at either Hastings Library or at Tyden Park, weather permitting.
