Barry-Eaton District Health Department Welcomes New Health Officer

September 9, 2025

The Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) announces the appointment of Rebekah Condon, MPH, as Health Officer, effective October 1, 2025. She takes over for Colette Scrimger, who is retiring after 13 years as Health Officer and 27 years with BEDHD.  Condon will lead the department's efforts to protect and improve the health of residents across Barry and Eaton counties.

Condon brings four and a half years of leadership experience at BEDHD, most recently serving as Operations Manager for two years. In that role, she oversaw budget planning, finance operations, and daily department functions. A Barry County resident, Condon lives in Middleville with her husband, Ryan, and their two daughters.

"The Board agreed that Rebekah has the right knowledge, skills, abilities, and leadership characteristics that will best guide BEDHD through these very changing times," said Catherine Getty, Board of Health Chair. "Her commitment to protecting and promoting public health in the district is strong and we believe she is ready to lead the department through what is sure to be a challenging few years."

"I'm honored to step into this role and build on the strong foundation already established here," Condon said. "Public health is fundamentally about serving our community. I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside residents to address the health challenges we face together. While the work ahead won’t always be easy, I believe in what we can accomplish together when we combine proven strategies with strong community partnerships."

Under Condon’s leadership, The Barry-Eaton District Health Department will continue its mission to protect and enhance health by promoting innovative and community-based programs and initiatives.
